About

Bristol's acclaimed multi-instrumental acoustic chamber-folk trio Three Cane Whale return to the iconic setting of Kelston Roundhill for what has become their almost annual musical gathering.

This year, they're joined by the extraordinary Boss Morris, an all-female Morris dancing collective based in Stroud, as well as their regular poetic collaborator, Bath-based writer & Kelston Poet Laureate Jon Hamp. A remarkable happening in a spectacular setting, the evening is also dedicated to the memory of Kelston Roundhill's event-wizard Craig Kenyon, who died last autumn.

Three Cane Whale

Three Cane Whale use wilfully eccentric combinations of instruments to create music that reeks of the British landscape, and resonates with folkish inflections without ever sounding like anything but itself. As intricate as a team of watchmakers, as spare as a mountain stream, uplifting and elegiac in equal measure, they encompass both a cinematic sweep and an intimate delicacy, in which "the aroma of muddy leaves and old nettles is almost tangible" (The Observer). Championed early on by Cerys Matthews, 3CW's music has featured on BBC Radios 3, 4 and 6Music, as well as TV and film.

Boss Morris

Founded with the aim of bringing a fresh and energetic perspective to traditional English Morris dancing, Boss Morris performs a vibrant and playful style of dancing, characterised by intricate footwork, bright costumes & jingling bells. It is dedicated to promoting the cultural heritage of Morris dancing and making it accessible to all. They've performed all over the country at festivals and other happenings, from cheese-rolling in the Cotswolds to an appearance with Wet Leg at the Brit Awards.

Jon Hamp

Jon Hamp is a poet, writer and performer based in Bath, and is Kelston Roundhill's official Poet Laureate. He has published four volumes of poetry, including "Dry Wood & Kind Light: The Kelston Poems", and recently collaborated with trumpet-and-drums duo Eyebrow on the album "And All The Giants", inspired by West Country landscape, history and myth.
