About
Bath Tennis Club will welcome the local community to its Community Tennis Cancer Awareness Fundraiser on Sunday 13 September 2026, bringing together tennis, fundraising and community spirit for a special day of activity, remembrance and celebration.
The action-packed event will offer visitors the chance to experience the friendly atmosphere at Bath Tennis Club, enjoy a variety of tennis activities and celebrate the benefits of an active lifestyle, while remembering friends and club members affected by cancer.
The fundraiser has been organised following the loss of two much-loved Bath Tennis Club members, Daniel Money, aged 27, and Sarah Griffiths, aged 65, who both passed away from cancer in September 2025. The club is using the event to commemorate their lives and celebrate the generosity and contribution they made to the tennis community.
Bath Tennis Club has partnered with Dorothy House, the regional palliative care specialist, and Cancer Research UK to raise funds for both charities. Pink tennis balls, kindly provided by Price of Bath, will also help give the event its distinctive pink theme.
Tennis activities for all abilities
The festival begins at 12 noon and is open to everyone, whether they are experienced players, complete beginners or simply interested in supporting the cause.
Visitors can explore the club, meet members and take part in a wide range of activities, including:
- Fun doubles tournaments
- Junior tennis sessions
- Tennis drills, tips and techniques
- Cardio and high-tempo sessions
- Pickleball
- Walking tennis for less mobile players
- Social tennis activities
Representatives from Dorothy House and Cancer Research UK will also be present, alongside short speeches, fundraising activities and a selection of raffle prizes.
Food, drinks and socialising
The event is free to attend with sign-up. A rolling BBQ will begin at 2pm, costing £7 per person, while visitors can also enjoy freshly made Pimm's and homemade cakes.
The bar will be open throughout the day, providing an opportunity for visitors to relax and socialise with fellow tennis enthusiasts from Bath and the surrounding area.
Supporting the Bath tennis community
Bath Tennis Club has been at the heart of the city's tennis community since 1880, providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the sport.
The club has recently invested £120,000 in its facilities, including four new hard courts, two Astro courts and improved LED lighting. The fundraiser provides an opportunity to showcase these improvements, encourage new members to discover the club and bring the local tennis community together.
While cancer awareness and remembrance are at the heart of the day, the event is intended to celebrate the lives of Daniel and Sarah and the positive impact they had on those around them.
Bath Tennis Club General Manager Andrew Kettle said the event reflects the club's commitment to providing "a vibrant, inclusive space where people can come together through tennis and social events".
The Community Tennis Cancer Awareness Fundraiser welcomes elite and experienced players, intermediate players, improvers, beginners, volunteers and anyone who simply wants to support the cause.
The event offers an opportunity to enjoy tennis, meet the local community, raise money for important charities and discover why Bath Tennis Club is more than a place to play tennis - it is a community and social hub for tennis enthusiasts.
