About

Sinfonia Cymru returns for a second Wiltshire Music Centre concert in Autumn 2026. This collective of under 30s musicians loves to collaborate with international stars that challenge and inspire it, combining classical music with a rich mix of styles in exciting and unexpected ways. This concert is no exception, as they are joined by celebrated Ivorian drummer and multi-instrumentalist Sidiki Dembélé and musicians from his ensemble, Percussion a'Abobo.

Yiriba means 'mighty tree', referencing the wood used to make the instruments that Sidiki's ensemble play. The concert combines new West African music with music from Wales and elsewhere in Europe. Building on previous collaborations between Sinfonia Cymru and Sidiki, it is a concert that will combine moments of deep reflection with infectious rhythms to have people on their feet.

Sinfonia Cymru are Wales' orchestra of young talent, a collective of dynamic professional musicians all aged under 30, from Wales and around the world. Whether performing classical music, new compositions or exciting collaborations with celebrated musicians from other genres, they are known for playing with passion, precision and a spirit of adventure. They play without a conductor so there's a deeper connection between the musicians and the audience.

Every year they collaborate with well-known artists and international stars who inspire and challenge them. These concerts combine classical music with folk, jazz, West African music and a rich mix of styles in exciting and unexpected ways. Recent collaborators include Catrin Finch, Bryn Terfel, Jess Gillam and Abel Selaocoe. They're also passionate about inspiring the next generation of Welsh music stars.
