About

Bath Spa University is proud to present the next instalment of the annual Fay Weldon Lecture series, honouring the life and work of Fay Weldon CBE, Professor of Creative Writing from 2012 to 2021, featuring speaker Professor Lara Feigel.

Professor Lara Feigel is Professor of Modern Literature and Culture at King's College London and the author of five highly acclaimed works of cultural history, including The Love Charm of Bombs (2013), Free Woman (2018), and Look! We Have Come Through (2022), and the novel The Group (2020). She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, reviews regularly for The Guardian and contributes to a range of BBC radio programmes. Her latest book is Custody: The Secret History of Mothers (2026).

Fay Weldon

As a novelist, dramatist, and critic, Weldon wielded immense social influence over her more than four-decade career. Her work challenged traditional expectations of women in marriage, domestic life, motherhood, and the workplace, empowering generations to question social norms and pursue independence. At the University, she is fondly remembered as a generous colleague and a wise, insightful mentor. This lecture series aims to carry forward her legacy, fostering discussions among writers, colleagues, students, and graduates.
