About

Bath River Line - Free 10km Riverside Walking Trail

The experience

A free, 10km linear park following the River Avon through the heart of Bath - open every day, at any time, and joinable from anywhere along the route.

The Bath River Line is one of the city's best free days out: a green, riverside walking (and cycling) route linking Newbridge and Batheaston. Led by Bath & North East Somerset Council and funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, it traces Bath's industrial heritage and Georgian landscapes while winding through parks, riverbank habitats, and thriving wildlife corridors.

Join the route anywhere to explore riverside stories on nature, history, and water - from rewilded birdlife along the Avon to the hidden history of how Bath once powered itself with town gas. Keep an eye out for the city's resident peregrine falcons, or simply enjoy a walk, run, or cycle away from the traffic. Phase One, running from Newbridge to Green Park, is now nearing completion, with the full route continuing to develop as a green corridor for walking, cycling, wildlife, and wellbeing.

Whether you're after a gentle riverside stroll, a scenic cycle, or a chance to spot local wildlife, the Bath River Line offers a different, quieter side of the city to discover.
