About
Bath Abbey will host a powerful musical journey through Ukraine's history - from traditional folk melodies to twentieth-century modernism and contemporary works that speak to the country's resilience today.
This fundraising concert marks five years since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, exploring the country's people, stories, emotions and enduring spirit through music.
Performed by the acclaimed bandura duo Dvi Doli and the Argyle String Orchestra, and featuring music by renowned Ukrainian composer Illia Bondarenko, the programme brings Ukraine's national instrument and its rich musical heritage to life. Bondarenko's work is celebrated for its emotional clarity and deep connection to the lived experiences of Ukrainians today. The second half includes his moving new string-trio piece, written in memory of his school friend whose life was tragically cut short by the war.
On this fifth anniversary, the concert becomes both a moment of remembrance and a celebration of cultural survival. Ukrainian music continues to live, evolve and be heard - despite everything.
All profits from this event will support the construction of a veteran centre in Oleksandriya, providing vital help to Ukrainian veterans and their families as they rebuild their lives.
