The Railway Inn is a beautifully restored traditional country pub in Sandford, Somerset, serving locally sourced food and the full range of Thatchers ciders just off the Strawberry Line footpath.

Our story

The Thatchers Cider owned pub is beautifully decorated with artefacts and photos that depict the pub’s cider-making heritage. Treat yourself to a delicious meal in the restaurant, have a snack in the cosy bar, or simply enjoy a pint of cider.

Food & drink

The enthusiastic front-of-house team is happy to go the extra mile to ensure that every guest has a memorable visit. The food served features regional and seasonal ingredients from local producers, with a strong emphasis on great quality, great taste and sensible prices. The drinks menu is also carefully chosen, with a full range of ciders from Thatchers, as well as plenty of beers, wine and soft drinks.

The Railway benefits from being close to the Strawberry Line, a popular footpath with walkers and cyclists. The pub serves a welcome break to those venturing along it.

The Railway Inn is a featured stop on Pint Sized Walks, a new partnership between Thatchers Cider and OS Maps by Ordnance Survey. This circular route starts and finishes right at the pub, taking you through the orchards and fields of Somerset cider country, the same landscape that's shaped Thatchers' cider for over 120 years. Follow the route on the OS Maps app, then reward yourself with a pint in the garden.

Dogs welcome

Dogs are very much welcome, and they are keen to let their owners know this through complimentary dog treats! Although since we know this doesn’t suit everyone, we do keep the formal restaurant area dog free.
