About

An evening of love, lyricism and luminous music for strings featuring virtuoso Esther Yoo.

Music of hope, beauty and humanity comes together in an unforgettable programme for strings and percussion, culminating in one of the twentieth century's most captivating violin concertos.

Acclaimed violinist Esther Yoo joins Bath Philharmonic Orchestra for Leonard Bernstein's radiant Serenade, a work inspired by Plato's Symposium. Playful, lyrical, passionate and exuberant, it is one of the twentieth century's most rewarding violin concertos. Esther's luminous tone, effortless virtuosity and deeply expressive musicianship have made her a favourite with audiences around the world.

The journey begins with Christopher Theofanidis's uplifting Vision & Miracles, before Jennifer Higdon's shimmering String Lake and Caroline Shaw's intimate And the swallow reveal the remarkable colours of the string orchestra. Samuel Barber's timeless Adagio offers profound beauty and reflection, while Aaron Copland's exuberant Hoe-Down brings irresistible energy.

From moments of quiet contemplation to exhilarating celebration, this is an evening that showcases the emotional depth and sheer beauty of orchestral strings in music that speaks directly to the heart.
