About

The Museum of East Asian Art invites visitors to discover the traditions and rituals of Japanese tea culture through a special Tea Ceremony held in the Museum's galleries.

Guests can experience ceremonial-grade matcha prepared by host Yukie Williams, who has more than a decade of experience practising sadō (茶道), the Japanese Way of Tea. Drawing on her training and early years in Japan, Yukie Williams will share her knowledge and experience of this traditional practice.

Alongside Yukie Williams, Yukie Scott will provide an introduction to the Japanese Tea Ceremony, exploring its different elements and explaining each stage of the process. Guests will also have the opportunity to sample a traditional Japanese sweet sourced from a Japanese bakery in London, served alongside the matcha.

As part of the experience, each guest will receive a 3g pouch of matcha courtesy of event partner Comins Tea. Participants can use what they have learned during the ceremony to try preparing authentic matcha at home.

Following the Tea Ceremony, guests can explore the Museum of East Asian Art, including the Reimaginings exhibition and the Discovery Room.

The event is supported by Comins Tea.
